Applicants should be enrolled in a Master's program, and the internship should be a mandatory part of the degree.
Within the Department of Precision Health, Dr. Torsten Bohn, Head of the Nutrition & Health Research Group (NUTRIHEALTH), aims, in collaboration with his team, to explore the world of carotenoids and dietary fibers. An important focus is the role of dietary fibers on the bioaccessibility and cellular uptake of carotenoids, as well as physocio-chemical effects on gastro-intestinal digesta. The project aims to employ in vitro digestion techniques to extrapolate the bioaccessibility of carotenoids.
For a project related to NutriHealth , we are offering a 6 months paid Master (2)-Student internship at our premesis.
The main tasks of the Master Student will be to work on in vitro digestion, recovery of carotenoids, measurement of physio-chemical properties of the digesta. In the frame of this work, the Master student will benefit from the expertise of Dr. Torsten Bohn in nutrition and health, and Dr. Farhad Vahid in nutrition sciences and food chemistry.
Main activities
- Bibliographic research;
- Scientific experiment hands-on in the laboratory, emplyoing in-vitro digestion, spectrophotometric measures, cell culture work, particle size analyses, fatty acid release etc.;
- Discuss results within group & other researchers;
- Interpret findings statistically;
- Participate in project meetings & organization;
- Give presentations at local institute level;
- Join other group-based activities.
Required profile
- Master (2) in Food chemstry, Clinical Nutiition, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Nutrition sciences or Bio-informatics with a focus on Diet & Health, or comparable;
- Previous experience in in vitro experiments, cell culture work and related fields;
- Good knowledge and hands-on experience with in the laboratory;
- Good writing skills in English;
- Excellent project and time management
- Bring professionalism, discipline and proactivity to work in a multi-disciplinary team.
