How will you contribute?
The objective of the internship is to develop and evaluate advanced approaches for the management and optimisation of 5G mission-critical communication networks, with a focus on dynamic network conditions, electromagnetic exposure and energy efficiency. The work will explore the use of Digital Twins and distributed learning techniques to support more adaptive network operations.
You will join the Distributed & Intelligent Connectivity (DISCO) research group and contribute to ongoing research activities at the intersection of communication networks, artificial intelligence and Digital Twin technologies. Your main responsibilities will include:
- Model and analyse 5G mission-critical communication networks under dynamic deployment and operating conditions.
- Investigate and develop AI/ML-based approaches for adaptive network management and optimisation.
- Explore the joint optimisation of network performance, electromagnetic exposure and energy efficiency.
- Implement and validate the proposed approaches through simulation and experimental evaluation in representative scenarios.

Education
Education: Master-level student in Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or a closely related field, with a strong interest in wireless/mobile networks and applied research.- Technical background: Good understanding of 5G/mobile networks and wireless communications, including radio propagation, RAN concepts, QoS and network performance analysis.
- Programming and modelling: good programming skills, preferably Python, and experience with data processing, simulation and/or optimisation.
- AI/ML and research skills: Basic knowledge of machine learning and interest in applying AI/ML techniques to communication networks. Ability to analyse scientific literature, design experiments and interpret quantitative results.
Language skills
- Fluency in English, both oral and written. Other relevant languages are an asset.

The monthly gross internship allowance is 1,400 euros for a full-time equivalent (40 hours per week).
