The European Investment Fund (EIF) is seeking to recruit for its Equity Services Division - Equity Eligibility Services Unit at its headquarters in Luxembourg, a Trainee - Equity Eligibility on Process Automation.

Duration: 5 months

Starting date: September 2025


Specific Post Environment:

In the context of its Equity activity, EIF provides access to finance to SMEs through private equity and venture capital funds, mainly operating as a fund-of-funds. EIF’s equity activity is funded through both its own share capital as well as funding resources entrusted by third parties to EIF as a manager/advisor (the “Mandates”).

In its capacity as mandate manager/advisor, EIF is under the obligation to carry out ex-ante (for new fund investees) and/or ex-post (for every fund and mandate portfolio) controls on the equity operations, to ensure that the Mandates are effectively and correctly implemented. In that respect, the Investment Compliance and Eligibility Division (ICE) assumes the central responsibility for monitoring eligibility parameters within the EIF, thereby ensuring high quality implementation of the Mandates requirements through the funds supported.


Overall objective:

You will be primarily involved in the maintenance, development and further automation of the internal processes of the Client Services - Equity - Eligibility Unit.


Responsibilities
:

Under the guidance of a Senior Officer, the trainee shall contribute to:

  • Develop, document and implement improved fund monitoring processes (including review of newly invested companies, encoding and monitoring fund Investment Compliance policy, monitoring visits as well as ESG reporting) in order to increase automation, ensure they are as lean as possible as well as to build a strong audit trail for all interactions with relevant stakeholders (Fund managers, internally to EIF, Managing Authorities)
  • Automate existing processes and/or improve existed automated processes using Power Automate and/ or Alteryx or other appropriate tools (SQL, Python, RPA, intelligent document processing etc.)
  • Set-up dashboards in Tableau
  • Document technical aspect of existing tools used by Equity Eligibility Unit


Expected outcome:

  • Automate further team processes using Power Automate and/ or Alteryx or other appropriate tools (SQL, Python, RPA, intelligent document processing) in particular with respect to newly invested companies and monitoring visits
  • Set-up dashboards in Tableau
  • Draft technical documentation related to internal tools


Qualifications:

  • University degree (minimum bachelor’s degree) in primarily IT, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, preferably with a Finance minor, or any related subject
  • Relevant first (short-term) professional experience on automating tasks in an administrative or financial environment would be a plus
  • Proven ability to code in SQL, knowledge of Power Automate, Alteryx and/or Python would be an advantage
  • Ability to work with spreadsheets and reporting software (Excel, Business Objects, Tableau or others)
  • Good knowledge of project management principles, methods and practices
  • Good documentation writing skills in English

  • Proactivity, capability to work autonomously under given objectives and ability to organise own work effectively even under time pressure
  • Excellent knowledge of English, both oral and written. Knowledge of other EU languages would be an advantage
  • Good interpersonal skills, open-minded and resilient
  • Attention to detail, while working under pressure and meeting deadlines
