The European Investment Fund (EIF) is seeking to recruit for its Governance Division within the General Secretariat, at its headquarters in Luxembourg, a Trainee.

Duration: 5 months & Starting date: September

Specific Post Environment:

The Trainee will be part of the Executive Governance Unit, Governance Division within the General Secretariat. The Unit supports the Chief Executive (CE) and Deputy Chief Executive (DCE) of the EIF in the execution of their institutional responsibilities. This includes the coordination and documentation of internal executive committees, preparation of briefings, and support to strategic governance initiatives. The trainee will be supervised by the Head of Unit and the two other senior team members within the Unit. The traineeship will provide hands-on experience in high-level governance support and institutional processes.

Overall objective:

Your overall objective will be to:

  • Support the streamlining of EIF internal committees from a governance perspective.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of governance documentation and processes.

Responsibilities:

Under the guidance of the Head of Unit/seniors of the team, you shall:

  • Participate in discussions on the streamlining of EIF internal committees.
  • Review relevant charters/Terms of Reference and provide input under supervision.
  • Contribute to drafting and revising committee charters and governance approval documents.

Expected outcome:

  • Gain an understanding of efficient governance frameworks and best practices.
  • Understand the modalities of lean internal decision-making structures.
  • Support progress on delivering streamlined charters and Terms of Reference for internal committees.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in law or business from a reputable university, preferably with a specialisation in corporate/regulatory law.
  • Ideally, previous experience as a trainee in a law firm, governance, or legal department of a corporate or institutional setting.

Competencies:

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Good communication skills – both written and oral
  • Quality focus and high level of accuracy in data analysis
  • Strong sense of ethics with the ability to keep sensitive information confidential
  • Strong ability to organize and follow up on tasks with colleagues across the institution
  • Ability to quickly learn new concepts, tools, and methodologies
  • Excellent team-working abilities.
