The European Investment Fund (EIF) is seeking to recruit for its Financial Strategy and Analytics Division of the Strategy Department, at its headquarters in Luxembourg, a Trainee.

Duration: 5 months & Starting date: September/October


Specific Post Environment:

The Financial Strategy & Analytics within the Finance and Strategy Office (FSO) contributes to the EIF's strategic priorities by providing Executive and Senior Management with support for corporate financial topics. It conducts strategic analysis to ensure ongoing projects align with the EIF's strategy and the EIB's objectives. The Analytical Center of Expertise unit provides data science services and fosters a data analysis mindset within the EIF Finance and Strategy Office. The unit focuses on data-driven strategic decision-making, participates in Strategy department projects, and engages in relevant EIF-wide initiatives.

Your overall objective will be to:

You will be primarily involved in supporting the Analytical Center of Expertise in the context of its ongoing projects, notably:

  • Develop automated solutions for the retrieval of critical internal and external datapoints used in the context of the EIF country spotlight, and their dispatch for analytics.
  • Develop analytics (tools and visuals) based on such data for the revamping of the EIF country spotlight project, with the goal of supporting responses to strategic questions.

Responsibilities:

Under the guidance of a Team member, you shall contribute to:

  • the automated retrieval and integration of data from existing datasets or by enriching the EIF database.
  • the robust error or exception handling throughout the automated pipeline.
  • the creation of data pipelines, analytical tools and visualisations in collaboration with colleagues across the Directorate.


Expected outcome:

  • Contribute to the development of Python scripts for automated API calls, ensuring comprehensive coverage of all indicators featured in the revamped Country Spotlight.
  • Support the creation of structured, cleaned datasets ready for visualisation and integration into data pipelines, including the development of Python scripts for dataset generation, storage, and enforcement of business rules to ensure data quality.
  • Assist in the deployment of a dashboard that consolidates and presents the EIF Country Spotlight analysis, based on automated data retrieval and streamlined data processing workflows.

Qualifications:

  • University degree in IT, Engineering, Economics, Business, Science or in a similar field;
  • Strong Microsoft Excel, SQL, and Python skills;
  • Knowledge of IT visualisation tools (e.g., Tableau, PowerBI) would be considered as an advantage;
  • Previous experience with any of the new technologies introduced into unit's processes (e.g. analytics, machine learning, AI, etc.) would be considered an advantage;
  • Good knowledge of project management principles, methods and practices;
  • Fluency in English.

  • Good interpersonal skills, open-minded and resilient,
  • Attention to detail.
