Description

Internship contract – 6 months | Fulltime/40h | From 01.08.2025 on | Belval Are you passionate about research? So are we! Come and join us

How will you contribute?

As networks advance toward 6G, there is a shift from simply faster systems to smarter, more adaptive ones. This internship, conducted within the Distributed and Intelligent Connectivity (DISCO) group, explores two game-changing paradigms:

  • Semantic Communications: Focus on transmitting only what truly matters, cutting redundancy and boosting efficiency.
  • Intent-Based Networking (IBN): Let users define what they want (like low latency), while the network figures out how to deliver it.
  • By combining semantics and intent, you will help prototype lightweight, intelligent components that make networks more efficient and autonomous.

You will be mainly in charge of:

  • Reviewing relevant literature in semantic communication and IBN.
  • Designing simplified algorithms for semantic filtering and/or intent translation for a specific use case.
  • Developing a prototype in a simulation environment (e.g., NS-3, Python) or using a software-defined networking (SDN) testbed (e.g., Mininet).
  • Evaluating the prototype on relevant metrics: bandwidth efficiency, intent satisfaction, latency, etc.
